Damilola Odusote
A degree in illustration at Camberwell College of Arts gave Damilola the strong technical basis on which to base his artistic explorations. Multifaceted and multitalented, Damilola draws inspiration from everywhere and everything, not least in his parallel career as a professional dancer which he likens to his artistic practice as similarly requiring technique, training, research and expressivity, and where movement feeds creation.
As a craftsman, Damilola attaches prime importance to process and method. He explores all avenues of the arts, working on ideas big and small, and setting himself to master drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, spray-painting and mixed-media work. His world is populated by an eclectic fauna of pets and wild animals, minutely detailed cityscapes, re-appropriated found objects and small characters in their playful vignettes. His guiding principle is accessibility and just like his iconic character, his work often purports itself to be ageless, raceless and genderless. Oscillating bween intimate box-like formats and larger scale painterly figurations and abstractions, Damilola demonstrates the versatility of a multi-media illustrator, graphic artist, storyteller, painter and all-round art-creator.
Damilola has a loyal client base in Europe, Asia and America. In the last few years Damilola has been in high demand for large scale mural work with commissions from Converse, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, LinkedIn, NEXT, Microsoft, YouTube Space and Google in Kings Cross London.
