Julian Emsley

Artist Julian Emsley

Julian is a multidisciplinary wood artist known for transforming fallen trees and reclaimed natural materials into evocative sculptural forms rooted in materiality that explore the intersection of nature, memory, and sustainability. With a deep respect for the organic world, Julian creates sculptural works using salvaged wood, transforming them through carving, burning, and finishing processes that highlight their natural life and transformation. With a strong focus on texture and its emotional resonance, his art invites tactile engagement and thoughtful introspection. Julian’s work is deeply meditative, grounded in materiality, and responsive to the overlooked details of the natural world.

Julian started his career as a freelance photographer. He dabbled in different creative practices including furniture making, drawing and painting. It was during a spell of isolation during Covid, that he took a leap of faith and started to embrace his expertise in all these different media and merged them into his artistic palette. Although he is still at the start of this artistic path which continues to evolve, Julian has already gained the attention of collectors and galleries around the UK.
