Besnik Mehmeti is a London-based, award-winning photographer whose practice blends his documentary photography roots with fine art experimentation. Originally from Skopje, North Macedonia, he moved to London in early 1990’s and, a few years later, began his career as a news photographer, covering the Kosovo War and later Iraq.
At the core of his work is photography, but his practice pushes beyond, embracing imperfection and materiality. He has developed a unique printing technique that celebrates textures, flaws, and the tactile qualities of the image. By printing on handmade paper, he transforms each image into a unique piece, allowing the surface to interact with the photograph and become part of the narrative. His images evoke memory, fragility, and the passage of time, offering viewers an intimate, contemplative experience.
His creative motto, “part camera, part craft, lots of chaos and all art,” perfectly captures his process and philosophy.
Besnik was named UK Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2020 for his image ‘Silent Covid Morning’, which was exhibited in a group show that toured the UK. His fine art has also been exhibited in other group shows across the UK, including a recent fine art exhibition in Whitstable at Horsebridge Gallery in 2025. He has his own regular annual Open Studios and participates in the Spring and Autumn Art Fairs at the Landmark Arts Centre, Brixton Urban Art, Under The Rainbow in Rochester, and Dulwich Open Studios. His documentary photography of the Kosovo War has been published in a book and is also permanently exhibited at Reporting House in Kosovo. His latest latest collection, ‘London Tuning In’, was exhibited in a solo show at The Shard this year.
